FAQ

Everything you need to know

What is the NZDF aptitude test?
NZDF selection uses the SHL Verify G+ assessment: 30 mixed questions in 36 minutes covering numerical, deductive and inductive reasoning. Candidates for technical trades also sit a 20-question Mechanical Comprehension paper in 15 minutes. See Defence Careers NZ.
Who sits the Mechanical Comprehension test?
It depends on the trade you apply for. The NZDF does not publish the list of trades that require it, so prepare for it if your trade has any technical content.
How many attempts do I get?
Three attempts at the cognitive assessment. After a failed attempt, stand-down periods apply (3 months, then 12 months) before you may sit it again.
Does Exam Arena provide actual SHL questions?
No. Exam Arena uses original SHL-style practice questions. SHL assessments are proprietary and past papers are not published.
Is Exam Arena affiliated with or endorsed by the NZDF?
No. Exam Arena is an independent study platform. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the New Zealand Defence Force.
Does this preparation guarantee a pass?
No preparation can guarantee a result. The NZDF does not publish pass marks; confirm current requirements with your Candidate Engagement Facilitator.
Can I cancel or change my plan at any time?
Yes. You can cancel the monthly plan at any time, directly from your account, with no extra fees. To switch to the 6-month plan, email Eliott at eliott@examarena.com.
